Emergency Closures
We make every effort to keep the school open at all times, however in extreme circumstances such as, dangerous weather conditions or a boiler breakdown, the school may need to close. This rarely happens and only as a last resort and we would always attempt to make an early decision to minimise disruption.
If this happens during the school day, we will contact families via Parent Hub.
If we have to close before school opens we will announce via www.derbyshire.gov.uk/schoolclosures , via Parent Hub, our Twitter feed and on our Facebook page .
You will be notified in the same way when the school reopens. If there is extreme weather and you have not received notification from us, then please presume the school is open.
Warm Weather
In warmer weather, we spend more time outside during lessons and playtimes.
To ensure all children remain safe and comfortable in the sun, we kindly ask for your support in the following ways:
Sun Protection: Please ensure your child comes to school each day wearing sun cream applied at home. While staff are unable to apply sun cream, children will be encouraged to re-apply a small amount to key areas such as the face, neck, and arms. To facilitate this, please send in a clearly labelled bottle of sun cream which will be stored in a cool area in the classroom.
Sun Hats and Water Bottles: We ask that every child brings a named sun hat or cap and a labelled water bottle to school. Drinking fountains are available in school too. These are essential for keeping cool and hydrated throughout the day. Drinking water regularly and staying in the shade will be encouraged.
Clothing: Children are expected to wear school uniform. However, during hot weather, school shorts or checked summer dresses may be worn. Sports shorts or sportswear are permitted on PE days only.
Sun Safety Education: Our aim is to help children understand the importance of sun safety. We will be promoting habits such as applying sun cream, wearing sun hats and sunglasses, staying in the shade, and drinking plenty of water.
Please note that the school cannot provide sun cream or be held responsible for any cases of sunburn despite taking reasonable precautions. Your support in these matters helps us to keep all children safe and well during the summer months.
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact the school office.
